Working on My Building Project

Date: 19th May, 2014

Today was a planning day. I was asked to make a playground equipment for children which are in primary age group. Considering the safety side of the equipment, I will then be asked to transfer it to the SpielKiosk.

As I had to get my idea approved by the head of the charity (Peter Marti), I wanted to present my idea in a more realistic/impressive way. I used Sketch Up (3D modeling program) to model my idea of the design. As my idea wasn't as simple and partly I wanted it to be accurate, I used intense mathematics before constructing the actual product to be sure about the lengths of the side needed for a certain amount of tilt (at an angle of 75°). After all the theoretical measurements, I went to OBI (nearest store when I can find wooden logs to create) to get an estimate of how much money i will be spending towards this project.

It is about 150 CHF!

Materials i needed to make this catapult game are:
1. 7 X 250 cm (2.5 meters) long wooden log, 5 cm thick and 3 cm width.
2. 8 X 1.2 Meters long rope with the maximum strength of 150 kg.
3. 8 X 5 cm long steel loop screws
4. 1 X 8 cm wide, 3 cm thick and 2 meters long wooden log
5. adequate amount of screws, bolts, nuts and machines ( such as drilling machine)

1st Day at Spiel Kiosk in Halle 710 near Eulachpark winterthur

On 18th May, 2014 (6 hours of service)

So, This was my 1st day at spiel kiosk. At the morning, I helped everyone getting started with their jobs such as heating the sausage heater, organising go carts and barriers and taking the fence off. After we opened, there was a bunch of 50 kids who just rammed into the place. I had a co - volunteer named Timo Bonomelli. We were responsible for renting the go carts to people. It was mostly him doing the talking as he was fluent in german therefore I decided to step up and asked him to talk to me in german and also give me an opportunity to talk to people. After then, I had some problems understanding some people but I managed to get my point across that language barrier.

Soon, after about 3 hours, there were about 150 people at the spiel kiosk. It also got harder to manage the children because all wanted to try go carts but we had only 2. It was shocking to know that they had no system to manage people. Soon I decided to make a log, so that people can write their name and it will be easier to track them.

Today, I just worked on the service portion. It was a great day!
